Biofuels have been promoted as a clean and renewable alternative to the often-dirty oil industry.
In Peru, the initial promotion of biofuels focused on encouraging private investors to comply
with the obligatory mixing schedule established by the government; but this effort gave insufficient
attention to the social and environmental impacts that energetic crops can have in a country like Peru.
“Biofuels in Peru: Issues at stake” presents the different perspectives of various specialists
and authorities, analyzing the many implications of biofuels promotion in Peru.
