Mr. Fridley has been concerned about the potential effects of petroleum depletion (peak oil) for a number of years and has done extensive work in this area. In Peru, the initial promotion of biofuels focused on encouraging private investors to comply
with the obligatory mixing schedule established by the government; but this effort gave insufficient
attention to the social and environmental impacts that energetic crops can have in a country like Peru.
“Biofuels in Peru: Issues at stake” presents the different perspectives of various specialists
and authorities, analyzing the many implications of biofuels promotion in Peru.
