Solar or Geothermal energy to replace 100 percent of all electricity in house?
Written by admin on February 17, 2010 – 8:46 am -We have a 100% electric house. We live in a rural Texas town. We are upset about the cost of electricity and we were wondering what the cost would be to change from Electricity to solar power or geothermal energy to use in our home? I am also wondering what is the cheapest way to do this as we don’t have any extra money at all? Are there pricing plans available?
I think you’ll need to save up money to invest in a system. Some things cost more, some cost less. In order, this is what I would do:
1) Better insulation for the house, awnings to keep out the sun in summer, double-pane windows, etc. Super-insulate everything. Excellent payback for the cost.
2) Ground-based heat pump to replace the air conditioner and heater. This can cool in the summer, heat in the winter, for less money.
3) Solar water heater. That should be a net win over your electric heater. You could still keep the electric on standby in case there are too many cloudy days.
4) Solar cooker. Very cheap, if you’re willing to cook your stew outside on sunny days.
5) Solar electric system. This is the last step, slowest payback, biggest upfront investment.

What is geothermal energy and how can it help you go green?
Written by admin on February 12, 2010 – 11:20 pm -Hey, i’ve got to do a research project for school, and i know that geothermal is generated in the earth’s core about 4000 miles below the surface. but i don’t know what is it exactly. and in a normal everyday home, how can it help you to be GREEN?
Geothermal energy is not really feasible. But geothermal heating and cooling is, and it is available everywhere now. It greatly reduces energy needs for any building. Google it.

how much of geothermal energy are we able to obtain ourselves and how much do we need to import?
Written by admin on February 5, 2010 – 9:59 pm -This is on geothermal energy
Import? How the heck do you import geothermal hot spots? They are where they are and that’s where you build the plants. If you mean putting the power on the grid, one source becomes like any other, it’s just raw electricity.

How Does Geothermal Energy Convert To Electrical Energy?
Written by admin on January 29, 2010 – 3:30 pm -plzzzzz help me i have an assignment on geothermal energy and i need to find out how geothermal energy converts to electrical energy
Three different types of power plants – dry steam, flash, and binary – are used to generate electricity from geothermal energy, depending on temperature, depth, and quality of the water and steam in the area. In all cases the condensed steam and remaining geothermal fluid is injected back into the ground to pick up more heat. In some locations, the natural supply of water producing steam from the hot underground magma deposits has been exhausted and processed waste water is injected to replenish the supply. Most geothermal fields have more fluid recharge than heat, so re-injection can cool the resource, unless it is carefully managed.

Is/would geothermal energy be beneficial for the Pacific Northwest? If so, how/ why?
Written by admin on January 25, 2010 – 6:33 am -I’m not sure but I found a couple websites and I think they said geothermal energy is already used in the PNW but I need to know how and why it’s so convient for the PNW.
Geothermal energy is potentially viable for nearly every part of the world, but the cost of production varies widely.
Areas that have naturally occurring hot springs are indicative of volcanic activity close to the surface.
Ironically, if the geyser called "Old Faithful" was not a tourist attraction on a protected site, it would be an excellent place to construct a geothermal power plant.

How to get Geothermal energy?
Written by admin on January 18, 2010 – 3:11 pm -Ways on how to obtain geothermal energy?
From a volcano or hot spring I’ve read where the use heated pipes to transfer energy from such locations. I think you might also be able to have home geothermal energy from under the earth (under your home), mostly used to heat hot water. It looked liked giant coils under the ground.

How does Geothermal Energy Power a House and Heat one.?
Written by admin on January 15, 2010 – 3:36 am -How does Geothermal Energy Power and Heat a House…….Please Help.
geothermal energy can create power. it is very expensive and not very effective.
power plants that use geothermal energy do so in a derivative of the following:
they inject cold water into a geothermally active area, and flush out hot water — they are creating a flowing fluid system in which cold water is warmed by geothermally and then becomes hot. this hot water is brought to the surface and this hot water is then usually used to heat *more* water (they don’t just use the original water since it now contains tons of minerals and sediments). This water is then turned into steam which is used to turn turbines. The turbines create energy. The water used for steam is kept in the same cycle and the water used for injecting into the ground is kept in that cycle. Generally.
Things differ based on area and stuff, but that’s a brief overview. Its not very effective. Plus injecting cold water into hot areas can cause rock fracture and other things.

Does anyone know of the company that uses geothermal energy to heat homes?
Written by admin on January 5, 2010 – 8:35 am -When people talk about energy replacement we hear about wind and solar. Are any companies making advancements in geothermal energy for homes and businesses.?
ABOUT GEA
The Geothermal Energy Association is a trade association composed of U.S. companies who support the expanded use of geothermal energy and are developing geothermal Resources worldwide for electrical power generation and direct-heat uses.
Our members have offices or operations in many states and in numerous countries throughout the world.
To accomplish this, the GEA advocates for public policies that will promote the development and utilization of geothermal Resources, provides a forum for the industry to discuss issues and problems, encourages research and development to improve geothermal technologies, presents industry views to governmental organizations, provides assistance for the export of geothermal goods and services, compiles statistical data about the geothermal industry, and conducts education and outreach projects.
